Poco Deli

I have heard a lot about Poc Deli - from their sandwiches, sausages, pasta and their infamous Bacon Slab meal. I've seen pictures of it everywhere and have been wanting to try it.

It was a rainy afternoon and I needed to attend to a meeting somewhere in Mandaluyong. On our way home, hubby asked if I wanted to eat anywhere. He offered for us to look for a place in Fort but as we headed to C5, we passed by Pasig. I was reminded of the foodie strip in Kapitolyo. I originally wanted to try Milky & Sunny. As we cruise the street of Kapitolyo, I can't contain my excitement as I saw familiar restaurants lined up side by side. It was a foodie heaven! We spotted Milky & Sunny but also saw Mad Mark's, Ba Noi's, Poco Deli and Lia's Cakes in Season. I needed hubby to decide for us since I can't. I just can't.

Fortunately, hubby picked Poco Deli. The store was a little small as you enter. There were a couple of tables and chairs, a wine cellar, a freezer for sausages and ice cream, the counter and a display of pastries. As you look around, you will notice this area that was actually a portal to a bigger and more privy space. It had long tables reminiscent of dining tables in old houses. Being inside the store was like being in a tucked away Italian restaurant.

Wooden tables and chairs, wide selection of wine, warm and cozy lighting
Looking at the menu, I was in no doubt going for the Bacon Slab. The hubby, however, suggested against it. Whut?!? He said it was expected to be good and bacon will always be bacon. I mean, he is a big bacon fan too but for him it was just too cliche. So in short, we did not try it!!!

We ordered the following instead --

Truffle Oil Pasta for 350php
The little girl while enjoying the pasta
I got the Truffle Oil Pasta. When it was served, the smell of truffle oil was so strong it made me so giddy to eat it. It had cream as the base sauce which was then infused with truffle oil, topped with seafood (shrimps and squid), mushrooms and bacon bits. Gawd it was so good I needed to order another plate! The little girl liked it too, finishing almost half of our first order.

Irish Beef Stew for 300php
The hubby got the Irish Beef Stew. It was served steaming hot and appealed to my sense of smell too much! The beef chunks were so tender, the veggies were cooked just right with the carrots retaining some crunch. The sauce was rich in flavors I couldn't quite explain. At first, it didn't taste so good because of this bitter taste, coming from the beer that it was simmered with. But when you try it again, then you'll capture this caramel-y taste that blended so well with the spices used. The best beef stew for me.

Blueberry Smoothie for 205php
I also ordered for a Blueberry Smoothie. It was expensive for 205php and was a little lacking in blueberry flavor but had bits and pieces of blueberry.

Vanilla Bean Ice Cream for about 160-175php
I was meaning to try their Red Velvet cake slice but the little girl asked for ice cream. I wanted to go to Mad Mark's for that but she just can't wait! We tried the Vanilla Bean flavor. Their ice cream were made in small batches, ensuring quality and freshness. One tiny spoonful and I fell in love! That classic vanilla flavor, in a rich and creamy ice cream, was there - strong but not too much. There were also tiny black specs of vanilla beans. I wanted to try some other flavors but you know I can always come back.

Their ice cream flavors - handcrafted in small batches
A treasure box of sausages and ice cream!
Overall, I LOVED the visit. Service was impeccable! You don't even have to call their attention. As soon as they notice that you need something, they'll come right at yah!
