Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen

Written By clapalisoc on Monday, 14 October 2013 | 00:45

The recent bed weather days made me crave for some good noodle soup. Hubby's idea of noodle soup was Ramen. We wanted to shy away from the familiar flair of Wrong Ramen and we were not in the mood to go far south so we decided to go to the trusty BGC. Onto SM Aura this time! As we check on the stores in this much talked about mall, hubby spotted Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen.

Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen - SM Aura
This ramen house looked really good from the outside and still impressive when you get in. Walls covered with wood planks and an area right smack at the middle of the restaurant that was enclosed by more wood planks with about 4 tables and some chairs. Nice! Then, there was the typical long table lined with chairs facing the kitchen was there.  It gives a minimalist feel, something that felt like closer to nature or more like being in a spa. The restaurant was also well lit.

That enclosed center - shot facing towards the mall
Seeing all this, I got so excited to order! We checked on their menu and bowls after bowls of Ramen greeted us. It was so hard to decide. Finally, we made up our minds and ordered.

Cold Tea and Water
While waiting for our orders, we were given some house tea. Just like in Ramen Bar, their house tea was served cold. It wasn't thrilling at all. It could have been better if it was served hot.

Ikkoryu Original Tonkotsu for 330php
Ikkoryu Original Tonkotsu. My Ramen choice for the day. I was asked how I wanted my noodles (soft, normal or hard) and I went for normal. The serving looked really good though it seemed oily. I needed to take a sip of the broth first to savor what Ikkoryu has to offer. One sip that led to another for confirmation - it was somewhat disappointing. I was expecting it to be rich and flavorful but came out as watery and bland. Then there was just a piece of lonely meat that was tender and had the right trimming of fat. Now the noodles - they were too soft. It was just like eating "Lucky Me" noodles. Should have requested for hard instead. On the brighter side, this Ramen bowl had generous garnishing - green onion, bamboo shoots, wood ear and dried seaweed. But that was it. To make things worse, it was really oily. I got the dizzy feeling even if I did not finish my bowl.

Ajitama Tonkotsu for 380php
Hubby got their Ajitama Tonkotsu just because he wanted some of the marinated egg. It had the same broth base as my order and exactly the same garnishing, except that it had more meat. I think I liked this better. It was more flavorful. But still, it was watery. See, I'm no Ramen Guru but I know what tastes good and feels good.

Gyoza - 6pcs for 150php
Then we needed to order their Gyoza. We've tasted the best in Yushoken and we wanted to compare. It had this hard-ish dry part towards the end of each piece and didn't seem like they were freshly prepared. They were more like the frozen type.

The servers were not so attentive when we were there. To note that it was not peak hour when we ate there, they were busy doing something else. Then the bill out. It took a while before we got our bill and it also took them awhile to bring back our change. Maybe they were just winding down a little after a very busy, I suppose, lunch hour.

The price of each Ramen Bowl was no joke. I would say that I would never go back to Ikkoryu. It's not just my type. With the total damage in our pockets that day, I would rather go to Yushoken or Wrong Ramen.
