Izakaya Nihonbashi Tei - Authentic Japanese Cuisine

Written By clapalisoc on Tuesday, 27 October 2015 | 13:56

I've been eyeing on Nihonbashi Tei since the first time I noticed it. We've been meaning to dine here but it's either too early and they're still close or we've already had our fill when we passed by the place. Since it was just mommy and daddy night on a Sunday, I asked hubby if we can finally put my Chirashi craving to end and visit Nihonbashi Tei. Hubby obliged and off to makati we went. We got there around 8PM and the place was packed! We were number 4 on the wait list. Took about 20 minutes before we got our table.

Their menu was extensive and I was overwhelmed as I scanned. While I was so sure that I wanted some Chirashi, hubby took a while to finalize his orders. Let me show you what we had.

Nihonbashi Tei Makati Chirashi Don
Chirashi (Regular)

My bowl of Chirashi! Loved the colors of this bowl. It had tuna, salmon, mackerel, octopus, tamago and that another type of fish. The rice had some vinegar in it and it was topped with shredded sea weed. I haven't had a lot of Chirashi in my life. Last time I had one was years ago. But this one was good. It didn't have any fishy smell and the sashimi were almost melt in your mouth.

I've seen this several times in IG and I don't have any idea what it had. When we got the chance, we asked the server what was mixed with the rice and all she can say was ketchup. I insisted for her to check with their chef since rice x ketchup wrapped in fried egg can't be as expensive! So, she went and asked and told us that it had chicken chunks. Fine. We gave it a go since I love mixing ketchup with my morning "sinangag" together with some egg. I would say that this was just okay. Can be easily done at home.

Nihonbashi Tei Makati Special Yaki Gyoza

Hubby got an order of their Gyoza. They were tasty and good, though not the best that I've tried. Some pieces were a little too soggy but most were firm.

We also tried their Takoyaki and I must say that I liked them so much! Loved the chewy chunk of octopus and the flavorful batter it was enveloped with. Came in with some mayo and the usual bonito flakes topping.

This is what will greet you as soon as you enter the restaurant

Prices were affordable compared to other Japanese restaurants and the dishes here were more authentic. No frills and sophistication, but the sea food was of great quality. There is also nothing fancy in this restaurant, no classy interiors and furnishings. It wasn't hard to call the attention of the many servers lurking around the restaurant but then there's no guarantee that they're paying attention when you ask for something. Water refill was also quite a challenge.
