New Bombay - Celebrating Indian Cuisine!

I like Indian Cuisine but it’s not something that I crave for every now and then. It’s not my comfort food either and the husband doesn’t really fancy spicy food. But when I crave for some Indian food it’s that type of craving where I MUST HAVE INDIAN FOOD RIGHT NOW. Once or twice a year at most, we go to an Indian restaurant to curb my craving.

New Bombay is one of our trusted restaurants when it comes to Indian food. I haven’t really been to a lot but having dealt with Indian bosses in the past, I have somehow had a taste of the authentic and they agree as well that New Bombay is not a bad choice.

It was a late night weekend craving that the husband willingly gave into so we found ourselves in BGC. Good thing New Bombay is open until around 12am I guess during weekends. We settled but we always have a problem with their blue lighting. I don’t like it.

We checked their menu and decided to get the following ---

Chicken Tikka Masala from New Bombay

My choice of dish for the night paired with Cheese Naan. Masala is a mix of spices. There’s no particular recipe for it. They generally call any mix as Masala. This dish had tender pieces of boneless chicken that were grilled in a thick tomato based sauce with an exotic masala. It was topped off with grated cheese. The sauce had a strong smell of spices and when you taste it, it will wake up your senses. It’s silky and smooth and creamy. I opted to get a mildly spicy version so that it wouldn’t be pain for the hubby but I would say that a really spicy one would be the top choice.  Also loved the notes of cilantro in this dish.

Mutton Curry from New Bombay

This was husband’s choice of dish which he also paired with Cheese Naan. Mutton is practically the meat of an adult sheep and the term refers to the meat only and not the living animal. This dish was made up of tender chunks of mutton in a thick tomato based sauce with onion gravy. It’s then topped off with more onions! We asked for a mildly spicy version again and I would say that I liked this dish more. Maybe it’s because of the meat. The meat was more flavorful and went well with the strong spices.

The warm Naan with gooey cheese inside was the perfect pair for our dishes. It held the sauces well. Loved the bite and the chewiness of the naan and we even ordered some extra for take out!

Overall, it was an okay dining experience. My only problem was the service. The servers were not as attentive. The lady who served the dishes to us didn’t seem to be in a good mood. She wasn’t so careful in serving the dishes to our table creating loud “bang” sounds each time. Also, I don’t think it would hurt so much to serve with a smile.

4 Stars for the food, 3 Stars for the Service!
