Ever since Mercato Centrale made it's debut in BGC, it has attracted people from all over the Metro, including those from neighboring provinces like Rizal and Laguna. The concept was just so brilliant. All sorts of vendors offering gastronomic goodness - from pastries to gelato, milk tea, barbecue, street food, steaks, burgers, international cuisine offerings, true blue Pinoy delicacies coming from all parts of the country, you name it, they have it! If you're more of the nocturnal kind, they're also open until the wee hours of Friday and Saturday! If you're looking for organic fresh produce, drop by early in the morning during the weekends and you won't be disappointed.
It's a shy away from the other well known night food markets because here, you're sure that the vendors were chosen carefully to deliver the ultimate gastronomic treat! Not only that, the space is ample, with tables and chairs to ensure comfort while eating.
But if you're coming from the South, the location of Mercato Centrale in BGC is somewhat far off and not so practical. For sure you won't be able to go there week after week considering A LOT of factors - toll fee, gas, travel time, etc. But don't fret! The Mercato Centrale group is bringing back this popular food experience to the South! El Sur - the NEWEST Mercato Centrale market will make it's debut in Alabang Town Center on November 23!
If you kind of remember, Soderno in Molito graced the Friday nights of foodies until they took a break. Anton Diaz, co-founder of the Mercato Centrale group and the blogger behind the popular food and travel blog www.OurAwesomePlanet.com, said that South-based foodies clamored for it's return and with this kind of support, Mercato Centrale Group decided to bring it back in the South. On the other hand, RJ Ledesma who is another co-founder of the group said they're really looking forward to bringing this foodie experience in Alabang Town Center. "It will include a variety of great-tasting and innovative food choices straight
from the homes of the South-based chefs and homemakers, acoustic entertainment
and a lively atmosphere. We will also have the best-selling vendors from our various Mercato
markets sharing their famous dishes in EL SUR!”
Aside from the foodie experience, Mercato Centrale in BGC also served as the starting ground of expanding Manila food businesses like Manang's Chicken, Merry Moo Premium Ice Cream, Spring by Ha-Yuan, Kristina’s Inutak, Chuck’s Grubberie Fish and Chips
and many more. And remember the popular Mochi Ice Cream - Mochiko? It was also a pioneer Mercato Centrale vendor! According to Anton, finding the next big food entrepreneur in the South is also one of their goals.
