Binondo Food Crawl: Shanghai Fried Siopao

Written By clapalisoc on Friday, 15 May 2015 | 12:15

I have always wanted to visit Binondo and walk through each street and corner to find cheap thrills. I was given that chance one fine Monday afternoon when hubby needed to go there for something important. I instantly volunteered to accompany him, not only because I always want my free times spent with him but also because it was my chance to do a BINONDO FOOD CRAWL!

So, I got my looloo guide ready and headed to my first stop - Shanghai Fried Siopao.

Shanghai Fried Siopao for 18Php each

Don't get confused. These babies are totally different from their cousin Toasted Siopao that have gained popularity and can now be bought almost anywhere. Fried Siopao are not what you think they are. They're not "fried" as we know what fried literally means. Only the bottom is fried or should I say toasted. But don't under estimate these buns coz they sell like hot cakes and line can get really long!

Inside the Fried Siopao

For 18Php, you'll get a warm siopao with toasted bottom. The bun itself was so soft and the bola-bola filling was so good! It was as if pork dumpling without the wrapper was tucked inside the white bun! Winner for the price since the filling was generous. So good you wouldn't even ask for siopao sauce. Hubby and I were able to inhale 2 each in no time so I needed to get out of the car again and buy some more.

Now I'm wondering if they have this in Asado flavor?

Now, don't go out there looking for an all made up store. The space was unapologetic - no decorations, no ambiance, looks dirty but sells the best Siopao I have tasted.

5 out of 5 Stars for Shanghai Fried Siopao!
