La Maripili - A Churreria in Alabang!

Finally, people from the South of the Metro need not fret about how far they have to travel just to get their hands on some warm churros from La Lola. La Maripili has recently opened in the new corporate building of Alabang Town Center that houses Sykes.

I would love to love my visit here, really. The place was sleek and clean with mainly whites here and there. Love the innovation with small wooden crate boxes used as wall installations to add some rustic touch to the place. I loved the warm lighting, the use of tiles, the drop lamps and the touches of greens. The place could pass for a high end restaurant, more than being a Churreria.

A look at the counter in La Maripili

The name of the game is self-service. Order at the counter, pay and wait. I got their Classic Churros, Large and added two chocolate dips - for 110php each! Wow! Expensive dip! For a 4oz dip at that price, I thought that it should be worth the price tag!

Learned that they use Sunflower oil to fry their Churros. The staff said that olive oil burns faster so they need to change the oil every 2 days if that's the case that's why they use Sunflower Oil instead. Made me wonder how long before they change the oil then.

Look at that very runny chocolate dip!

Anyhow, Sunflower Oil is a bit neutral in taste so there wasn't any trace of it from the Churros, unlike olive oil, and the Churros weren't as oily. Crunchy outside, soft and warm inside, perfect! The chocolate dip was ---- errr ---- very runny! It wasn't diluted with milk coz it had this bitter and sour taste which was good. At first it was too sour for me but later on I got used to it. It wasn't super sweet though. But then again it was super runny! I wish it was more thick to properly coat the churros.

Giving this another try coz they might have changed the dip to a thicker one as mentioned by a friend who visited recently. Made this visit weeks ago so maybe, just maybe, they've changed it.

PS.

Staff needs more customer service training coz we went there late and they close at 10PM. Some restaurants would politely ask customers for their last orders and mention that they will be closing in a few. We didn't notice the time because we were chit-chatting. The staff started cleaning then maybe they noticed that customers were not moving so they approached each table saying that they're already closed and have already extended 10mins and that they still need to clean like - "Sir 10PM kasi closing namin nag extend na nga kami ng 10mins maglilinis pa kasi kami" That was okay but you know for a place like this sometimes you're expecting something more. Anyway, this could just be me. Baka pagod na lang tlga sila LOL

3 out of 5 Stars for La Maripili!
