Sentro - Modern Filipino Cuisine

Tired from the previous evening's trick or treating, we were having a lazy Monday morning. We soon decided to go and hunt for green tea goodies around Serendra but as we arrived, soon craved for nourishment to fill our tummies. We've been wanting to try Sentro for some time now and it seemed that that day was just the right day to do so. I'm not really sure what the specialty dishes were but I knew that they served Filipino food. Hubby, on the other hand was keen in sampling their house specialty - Sinigang na Corned Beef.


The restaurant interior partly reminded me of Josephine's (the Tagaytay resto) mainly because of the high ceiling, overall Filipino-themed paintings and menu. The place is well-lit with different designs of light fixtures. I bet the place looks better at night. From any corner in the restaurant, you'll be able to take a glimpse of their kitchen that is as bright and tidy. In front of the kitchen counter, there is a big glass board where their specialties were written.

Looking at their menu, we gave these a try:


Tomato Kesong Puti Salad for 280php

I did not originally order this salad but as we were waiting for our food to be served, I can't help but wonder what was in it (and drool as I was doing so). So before everything was too late, I went ahead and ordered for one. This salad is a lip-smacking hit! Freshly sliced and seasoned tomatoes sitting on top of crunchy lettuce bed, topped with kesong puti that's drizzled with olive oil and dressed with tomato-anchovy. It also comes with some fried kesong puti pieces and skinned tomato filled with the dressing on the side. Hubby is not a big fan of salad, and even more so of tomatoes, but he definitely liked this one! For me, it's the combination of the tomatoes and anchovy that gave the overall winner taste of this salad. Its not rocket science, but it's saltiness works well that compliments the whole salad, pulling it apart from sour-dressed salads of common acquaintance.




Sinigang na Corned Beef  (Solo) for 310php
This is the "Specialty of the House." Your usual sinigang, where the broth is sour and the usual pork replaced by big chunks of corned beef (ingeniously thought to innovate the household dish). One unique thing here is that the chef will actually give you a sample of the broth so it can be customized according to your preferred saltiness and sourness before finally being served. Nothing really special here, I would say -- I still prefer the usual pork version.




Rated GG for 230php
Galunggong fillet that had been fried in oil with garlic. When served, it's drizzled with some olive oil and topped with toasted golden brown garlic pieces. Indeed, this dish is "a great (re)discovery!"




Ginataan (small) for 75php
This desert is something I've grown up with as a child. My grandmother used to cook this especially during the summer season. Sentro's version did not disappoint me at all. The taste was just how I expected it to be - thick coconut based soup with tender banana chunks, sweet potato pieces, jackfruit, tapioca and glutinous rice balls. Yummy!

There are other interesting Filipino dishes and deserts with a twist in their menu and had we been not so full from what we've partaken in, I would have given their cheesecake a go! But then again, there is always another reason for us to go visit once (or) more!
