A busy Saturday and we had a lot of things to do in our list. Once we were able to accomplish our goals, we got so exhausted and spent and were famished, so we went on looking for a nice, not-so-crowded place to dine. We love Eastwood City, so even if it's totally out of the way, we went all the way there (from Megamall) to satisfy our hunger.
Scanning through the vast choices of restaurants in the coop, we decided to give Crisostomo a try. The place was inviting -- welcoming us with well lit, luxurious furnishings offering great [Filipino] food. I was intrigued on how they turned traditional Filipino must-eats into something more than out of the ordinary. We went ahead and checked out their carte du jour. The list of options was interesting -- with dishes named after characters out of the Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo classics. The menu was long and proud and it took sometime before we decided what to order.
We gave the following a run by.
Twice cooked chicken and pork Adobo served crispy and topped with A-grade Adobo flakes together with some tomato slices and a vinegar-based sauce on the side. It's very tasty with all the [Adobo] saltiness that we were looking for. It's a must-try for Adobo aficionados and is a sure shy away from the usual homemade Adobo that I know of.
This dish is a winner (at least for those who are acquainted with Kinilaw)! Chunks of raw Tuna cooked in loads of vinegar with bell peppers, garlic, onions, ginger, pepper and chilis! There is, however, something unusual with this version -- it has grilled liempo slices in it! So if you are not really into eating the raw fish, you can still munch on something fire-cooked.
Definitely a new way of eating the local favorite -- Balut! If you have been wanting to try Balut but is quite hesitant because of how it looks like from out of the shell itself, then, this is your chance to give it a try. Say hello to the Balut that has been taken out of the shell, cooked in a thick tomato-garlic sauce that is quite sweet and served in a sizzling plate. Since I am very much friends with Balut, I somewhat longed for the salty juice coming out of the shell (and most Balut eaters would always look for that). I believe that the unique flavor of Balut was lost in this dish but it is still worth the try.
When it was dessert time, we scanned the menu for something that it not so sweet and refreshing. Hubby's choice -- Olimpia. Mango cream pie with a generous heaping of cubed ripe mangoes -- both embraced by the rich and not-so-sweet cream, and lavished on top with a lovely mango sauce. A nice way to end a very flavorful meal!
There is actually nothing special about the taste of this dessert (it's just like your friendly Dulcinea Churros con Chocolate) but the presentation was something that prompted me to order. Sticks of Churros pinned into a ceramic bar served with chocolate fondue. I instantly fell in love with this dessert.
Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience -- elegant furnishings, friendly and attentive staff and a menu that will make you ask for more! No wonder, this restaurant has become very dear to the hearts of Filipino families.
