If there is one restaurant that screams glamour and class and expensive along the foodie stretch of Shangri La at the Fort, it's definitely Sugar Factory.

A franchise from the U.S, this American Brasserie is known for it's celebrity-endorsed Couture Pops that turned ordinary sweets into the trendiest and latest designer accessory of Hollywood stars!
Sugar Factory's Retail Store |
But they're not all about sweets. As they entered the local scene, we learned that they also have an extensive menu of beverages ranging from single serve drinks to goblet huge ones that you can have spiked or not, out of this world milkshakes, Martinis, Draft and Premium Beer, Wine, coffee, iced tea, etc etc! Aside from this, they also have an extensive food menu that will surely give you a hard time deciding what to get! From pancakes, waffles and French Toasts, all day breakfast sets and lunch sets, salads and soups, appetizers, sandwiches and burgers, pasta, entrees, desserts, ice cream sandwiches and chocolate fondues and a Kid's Menu - it has a lot to offer!
Went there on a weekday for a sponsored dinner - Sugar Factory x Zomato x foodfanaticph = YAY!!!
Just look at those chandeliers! |

As if that's not enough, they also have a second floor that's as gorgeous but with a smaller floor area. It's a more private space, if you'll ask me and is perfect for intimate gatherings!
We got to sample a lot from their menu - from breakfast items to mains and even drinks!
Pancakes: Banana and Walnut and Red Velvet
Gigantic Buttermilk Banana Walnut Pancake for 340Php |
A big plate of Buttermilk Pancake that was soft and fluffy but a little dry. It's topped though with banana slices, toasted walnuts, cinnamon sugar, dusting of powdered sugar and finished off with whipped cream.
A closer look at this huge pancake! |
It was also served with maple syrup on the side. It was just okay, honestly.
Red Velvet Pancakes for 320Php |
Three regular sized Red Velvet Pancakes topped with lots of white chocolate chunks, orange zest, a dusting of powdered sugar, buttercream and side servings of whipped cream and maple syrup. I would love to love this because it looks simply gorgeous with that red hue but it was just okay.

The pancakes were fluffy but not too "red-velvety" in flavor. Could have been better if this was served with cream cheese, but nah. The white chocolate chunks were too sweet making this breakfast treat cloying.
Salad and Appetizers: Chef's Salad, Bruschetta and Nachos
I loved this salad mainly because it has Jamon Serrano! It was also loaded with ingredients! Crisp mixed greens, arugula, shaved Parmesan, tomatoes, cucumber, candied walnuts in a raspberry balsamic vinaigrette. It was also topped with poached egg. I loved the contrast of sweet and savory, hints of sourness and lots of textures in between!
Warm Baguette slices topped with tomato, basil, evoo and Parmesan. Looked appetizing but never had the chance to try these.
A loaded platter of colorful nacho chips topped generously with spiced ground beef, melted cheddar, jalapenos, sour cream and tropical salsa. This was good! Tasty and savory, perfect partner for your cocktails!
Sandwich and Burger: Spaghetti Sandwich and Signature Burger
Honestly, I didn't notice that there was cheese in this sandwich. Though the bread was toasted nicely and loaded with Spaghetti Bolognese, there was nothing special in here. Why? The spaghetti itself was just okay.
Thick and juicy Angus Beef burger patty, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, crispy onions, ketchup and mayo and your choice of cheese - Cheddar, Swiss or Blue. This one's pretty good.
For mains, we tried this dish. There was way too much rice vs. the meat here. The Orange Chicken tastes like your usual Chinese fast food orange chicken and the fried rice was okay. Nothing special here.

Old Fashioned Milkshakes: Make a Wish and Giggles Snickers Milkshake
Make a Wish for 325Php |
Made up of Vanilla Ice Cream, blended with vanilla cake pieces, sprinkles, cupcake syrup and topped with whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles, vanilla cake cubes and a birthday candle, this milk shake is ready for all your birthday well wishers! It's sweet and thick with a rich vanilla taste, I loved this one!
This one's the bomb! Just look at that! Insane milkshake! Cookies and Cream Ice Cream blended with peanut butter, topped with whipped cream, then there's a whole bar of Snickers, waffle halves and a blow pop! As if that's not enough, the mug was covered with chocolate and dressed with colorful sprinkles and Snicker bites! It spells SUGAR OVERLOAD but I'm telling you, it was so good! The sweet tooth in me was so delighted!
Drinks: Goblets and Martinis
Their goblets bring in the show. Goblets full of ice served with ice, ready to be poured with liquid. Once they start pouring, the show starts! Lots of cold smoke! Much like that cloud of clean white smoke when you buy Nitrogen ice cream!
Love gummi bears? You might like this drink too! It's an energizing and refreshing blend of watermelon vodka and other spirits, tropical fruits with a dose of Red Bull Energy Drink to keep you going!
Tea-based cocktail that needs more tea and lemon because with all the ice in the goblet, this one tends to get watered down so easily!
I liked this one. Bias towards watermelon, I found this drink light and refreshing, even with the alcohol.
This was my favorite because chocolate and Martini! It's the ultimate drink for a chocolate lover with a good chocolate flavor, just the right proportion of alcohol. The rim was even lined with chocolate, coconut and pecan. So good!
Sugar Factory may not play well when it comes to their food but their drinks are something that you should try specially if you like milkshakes and cocktails!
3 for the food + 4 for the drinks = 3.5 Stars for Sugar Factory!
