An Encounter with Mr. Jones

Written By clapalisoc on Friday 4 October 2013 | 01:32

I've known Mr. Jones for quite sometime now, being a popular American diner. Badass burgers, sausages, steaks and milkshakes, you bet! Until recently, their Tapa has been making news all over Looloo. I know, I know...here I go again with Tapa. I just can't help it. I'm satisfied with how Kuppa's Tapa turned out but quite disappointed with the serving size. So when I learned that Mr. Jones has one of the best Tapa in town, in large serving, I knew I just had to try it out. Perfect venue for our lunch date with a dear friend.

I was just ranting about how I don't like my Tapa thin, bacon like and sweet. But even after looking at the pictures of Mr. Jones' tapa online, which looked exactly as how I have described the version of Tapa that I didn't like, I just can't resist. While hubby was scaning through their menu, he asked me what I wanted. Without even looking at the menu, I declared : RIBCAP TAPA! He asked what the Tapa madness was all about and why not check the menu since it was proud, but then, I just shrugged.

Jones' Famous Ribcap Tapa for 320php
My meal was served and I was over joyed! Oh my TAPA!!!!!!!! Generous heaping of fried rice, topped with a generous serving of Tapa! The Tapa was garnished with fried garlic slices and some spring onions. The meal also came with two eggs (cooked according to your choice), orange slices, Achara and spicy vinegar. Whiw! The Tapa strips were a little thicker than your usual bacon. The meat had the right trimming of fat too. Each strip was tender, tasty and flavorful with just the right blend of sweetness and saltiness. The fried garlic gave additional flavor to it. Emergherd! So good! Just so good!

Hubby ordered for a complicated Pork Chop - Grilled Bone-In Maple Glazed Porkchop with Mama's Homemade Applesauce! That was long! The description of the "Mama's Homemade Applesauce" and the other sauce that the Pork Chop was smothered with were interesting. Ripped out of the menu of Mr. Jones, here it goes ---

Topped with Cinnamon Apple and Apricot Campote, served with Spiced Pumpkin Puree, Haricots Verts & Organic Carrots

with Mama's Homemade Applesauce for 420php
There was a lot happening on that Pork Chop plate. But the Thick slab of well marinated Pork Chop, with tender parts and beautiful grill marks. I liked the Applesauce and the Campote too, probably because of the cinnamon. The Spiced Pumpkin Puree did not appeal to my taste buds. There was this odd flavor in it. When I come to think of it, I still prefer my Pork Chop plain and simple, most likely with some barbecue sauce!

Old Fashioned Grilled Cheese and Alphabet Tomato Soup for 230php
This was for the little girl. I loved the Grilled Cheese Sandwich! The bread had the right crunch on the outside but gooey and soft with cheese inside. The soup was yummy too! Made from roasted tomato and herb, there was this welcome sourness but was well complimented by the thin strip of cream. It had some alphabet noodles in it. Best way to go is to dip the sandwich into the soup! So hearty!

The Funk Monkey Milkshake for 275php
And of course, what is a diner experience without milkshake? We got The Funk Monkey Milkshake. The serving was good for two. See, just like in some other diners, their milkshakes were served with extra aluminum cup, almost half filled with more milkshake! It was rich and thick and creamy and yummy! Just the right blend of banana and Nutella, finished off with some whipped cream, chocolate sprinkles and two beautiful cherries.

Wicked Truffled Mac & Cheese for 395php
Then my friend tried their Wicked Truffled Mac & Cheese. Oh so good! It had three types of macaroni in it, four cheeses, mushrooms, green peas and bacon. Then it's drizzled with truffle oil and baked to perfection. Gooey cheese, bursting truffle oil flavor and bacon goodness! So sinful, so good!

Every order we had were really good! Each one was good for sharing too. Totally worth every cent.

Service was fast. Staff were friendly and attentive. They've got a couple of games, board games, that you can play with while waiting for your orders. Not only that, they're also friendly with children.
